Cats and Mice and Bats oh my

I have been drawing a lot of cats lately.
I only have one to show but cats were a thing for a few weeks.

Although you can't see it all that well, the gold was done in a gold marker and it's pretty shiny. I couldn't get a picture to show it off but trust me it's shiny and it's awesome.

Also a bat in puffy pants!

Also a presketch cause I like it:

Poor bats, wearing clothes is very hard for you little dudes.

The year of children's books

Starting next month, I have things planned to work on stories! Last year was comics and this year is Children's stories which will hopefully end in at least the Halloween story I will have up on Halloween! Yay! But between then and now, lots of the little things!

Character studies, portfolio updates, maybe even some test pages!
Should be a lot of fun this year!

I will posting a lot of before sketches and studies and all that fun jazz to keep this blog going so it'll probably be updated every other week as this year goes.
I'll probably update links too.

But for the time being has a little character from the first story I am focusing on!
Goliath and the Knight!

I've started using Acrylic Markers lately and those are fun man!

Been a while AGAIN

Like always I disappear from here time to time.
But I have been drawing.
A lot.

I have joined Inktober this year and am doing so much better than last year even with some lazy feet drawings and such.

Is updating almost everyday with fun inking stuff which is mostly done in nibs and ink!

Here are a few of my characters from the ghost story wooooooo (for Halloween):
Playing with watercolor pencils in this one along with the ink.

This one was fun.

And SNAKE TIME
with special guest, Crowley the ball python
The dork who likes to steal the glasses off my face!

I'm not sure when I will be posting again probably not until next month but be assured! I will be working writing some stories next month.
I hope to have a lot of things coming together in next few months so look out for them!

Been awhile

I haven't been drawing much "Children book" stuff so I haven't been able to update this in months. I have been updating my art tumblr if you wanna check that out!
And it's just been snowing none stop the last 2 months. It's snowing right now actually. I
am not use to all this snow.

So I have been going back into the story "The Girl in the Drawing." I'm hoping since I made this the year of drawing comics, that there will be a few little things with this story if not the full one planned out.
Unfinished. But I am still trying to figure out how each character should look. Each character changes slightly for all different reasons.

I've been experimenting with this type of thing using red pencil, markers and inks. It's fun.
I also like to think if this story was switched and the ghosts were little kids again and the kid was the ghost, but I feel like the story wouldn't be for kids anymore. Either way, they would be excited over the fact that their new house is haunted.
I just really like drawing Am and David when they were little kids though. Twinies!

Now here's a WIP of a little painting of a tree interested in the smoke that comes from humans during colder days.

And just because I am rereading some of the Chrestomanci books. Christopher Chant is my favorite characters. I hope when one day that yelling Chrestomanci works, he's the one that comes and I hope he's in one of his most fancy suits.

Happy Accident

Don't you just love happy accidents?
Since everything I do right now is all mice, I try not to do much of anything else until I have this mouse project done. Of course I do a few things here and there because I need to test out things so I was playing with what colors I should use for David.
Didn't turn out too bad.

Now excuse me. I have a few things to work out.
But before that!!

There's a chance I will be turning to get a table at cons with friends.
I'll tell ya if anything works out.

Hi ya!

Computer's alright, but not much to say after that.
Got a lot to do and I need to stop slacking.

Haven't really drawn Am in a while (okay that's a lie, but I drew her in a way that if the story was horror-ish. It doesn't count.)
Been working on another project so her story has been pushed aside.

And since not too much will be shown have a little practice comic I'm playing with because I got my watercolor brush. Based off the project I'm working on for the next few months.

See ya~!

Hair

I like drawing hair and I got a watercolor brush thing.
Used ink.
And had fun.

While my computer's in the shop, I'll be doing more traditional so there might be more inking things like this in the next coming week.
See ya~

Crowning the Mouse King

It's 2013! A new year! Year of the snake too!
But yes, yes, time to draw mice.

Actually done ink pencil and ink first:

Then played around with random brushes in photoshop.

I still need to play around with the background but I like it so far.

2012 Trick or Treat: pages 02-03

Sorry for the 2 day delay, but this is why I have trouble with finishing things.
Got to get better at that.

Trying a few things different on this.
(Like just the inking, because I need to work on the coloring part.)
Also a sorry for that weird split. I hav to try and find a way to fix that but I had to scan it in pieces and usually that's all good and fine but it just wasn't my day to scan correctly it seems. So at the moment (and probably forever actually) it will stay this way. It doesn't help that the scanner can barely fit a 8.5x11.

Now I need to bust my butt to get this done for Halloween! I am already behind!
Gonna try and get the next page up tonight, tomorrow there will be none because work and I'll be at a haunted house scaring children with a horrible neck wound.

2012 Trick or Treat: page 01

Yes! First page of my Halloween experimental short story comic!
I would have gotten it up sooner but alas I am lazy and was at work all day, so the next few days will be put up at night since I can finish the last bits when I get home.

Hope you will enjoy it!

EXPERIMENT

Just a little experiment for what I am going to have up next week for Halloween!
Although this was technically Moleskin and Moleskin paper is yellowish, it didn't come out too bad.
I am going to do a combination of red lead, black lead, inks (browns and blues), and a little digital brushing for added colors.
Vlad here has pale skin so it's a bit wasted.
I should have drawn Cindy with her pink outfit. Maybe tomorrow.

Now excuse me as I pretend I can actually create a typeface.

Later!

Merida

Tried my hand at a modern day Merida (From the Pixar movie Brave) who is pretty much wearing the same school uniform I wore in grade-school. Including the ugly yellow shirt.
Done in ballpoint pen and ink on Moleskine.

Thesis Progress.

Since I haven't been working on Illustration Friday drawings like I wanted to, I decided to show off a bit of how some of my thesis is coming along and showing one of the inks of a the drawing I showed in an earlier post.
All inked and fixed a bit in Photoshop. I should hopefully have it painted tomorrow along with at least two others.
I little screenshot of a makeshift spread I am trying to work at. There seems to be something a miss and I can't remember what that may be.

And since I am showing you that page anyway, here's a little sketch for it I am proud of:
I'm not sure if my idea I have is going to work but I thought I'd at least show it off because I do like the pencil lines.

I need to make sure I have two spreads in context by Wednesday next week so those come first. Good thing I don't have classes tomorrow.

Enjoy!

IF: Capable

So I decided to start up the Illustration Friday topic to get myself moving and have more than trees to show off. And I think "capable" is a great word to start with don't you think?

Done with sepia ink.

Colors.

And have one last tree for awhile.
Sepia ink and watercolors.

Now I'm going to go ink something a little bigger than I am use to.

Trees.

Little bit of my thesis that I have finally been able to get together. In the end there's going to be four trees for the four seasons. The pencil is the summer and the inked one is the fall.
I usually ink in sepia which I oddly enough broke today.
Great day.
